Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)

HIPAA, which stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, has two primary purposes:

  1. to protect health insurance coverage for workers and families when they change or lose jobs and
  2. to provide a framework for administrative simplification in health care.

Blue Cross is dedicated to both of these efforts.
